WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today took to the Senate floor in opposition to Scott Pruitt, President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Brown highlighted the importance of the EPA Administrator in protecting the Great Lakes from pollutants and harmful algal blooms, highlighting his meeting this week with David Spangler<https://twitter.com/SenSherrodBrown/status/831887566844620801>. Spangler is a charter boat captain on Lake Erie and opposes Pruitt’s nomination because Pruitt’s record doesn’t show he’d protect the Lake.
“Wednesday, I met with Dave Spangler, a charter boat captain on Lake Erie,” said Brown. “Dave has been fishing on the lake and its tributaries for decades. He told me about the improvements he has seen over the years: water quality has improved, walleye and yellow perch populations have rebounded. But algal blooms hurt his business. We need an EPA administrator who understands how this contamination hurts everything from our children’s health to Dave’s small business.
“Dave told me that he does not think Scott Pruitt is the right person for this job. He believes that with Scott Pruitt at the helm of the EPA, we might lose the gains we have made in the Lake.”

I’m happy to know that we still have someone with a brain in the Senate.
