September Newsletter Troop 315
No one can deny that this time of year is very hectic. It’s the same here, planning and squeezing all the activities in . October proves to be especially busy and I’ve included all the info I have in this newsletter to prepare everyone. The fundraisers seem to concentrate around this time of year but will allow scouts to build their accounts . One of the gaps that we’re unable to cover is Scouting for Food which happens on October 26. The troop collects all the food and drops of at Bridge Church Saturday morning. I have been talking to Eric Trout who may be able to offer help, I’m also asking parents if they can assist Eric on that day since we will be at Davis Besse. This is a rare moment we are stretched both ways.
September 8 & 15 First Aid
The troop will continue First Aid training and merit badge with Mrs. Boes. I want to thank all our scouts for being extra attentive and very respectful of our guest.
September 12 Join Scouting Night
Although we support our Cub scout pack in effort for them to recruit, Our troop will be at the NB Public Library at 7pm Thursday September 12 in hopes we also have new scouts join. If you would like to hang out with us for that short time. Come in Class A that night
September 22 Kyle Gerdeman’s Eagle Ceremony
Kyle Gerdeman, a 19 y/o student of Toledo University will receive his Eagle Award and Court of Honor on Sunday September 22, at 2pm American Legion. All scouts please attend this highest honor event in full class A uniform. Larry Bateson will be Master of Ceremonies and some of you will be involved as Color Guard and Honor Guard. I remember Kyle when he was just a cub and to see him become the amazing person he has is why being scoutmaster is so rewarding. Now, don’t be surprised if you hear a funny story from me about him at that event.
September 27-29 Luckey Festival
This year will start a different approach to fundraiser shared with other troops. We are going to try and split work load equally to prevent burn out among leaders. So… We are going to work from 3pm Saturday, September 28 to 7:00pm ish on September 29. We will offer 3 shifts during these days so sign up accordingly . You can work multiple shifts
Saturday 3:00pm to 9:30pm 1 share
Sunday 6:30am – 1:pm 1 share
Sunday 1:pm – 7:00pm Clean up – 1 share
Sunday will overlap since we have a lot of teardown to do. Parents, we also need you if you can help so let me know if you can participate any ne of these shifts. Cleanup Sunday may end earlier depending on how much help we have to do final trash run and collect cans.
October 6 &13
Mrs. Ginger Povenmire will teach Nuclear Science pre requisites for the upcoming Davis Basse Camporee for merit badge. To earn the badge these classes will fulfill all requirements to earn the merit badge
October 12 Soccer Tournament Parking
We need 8 scouts to assist in Van Buren for their annual Soccer Tournament. This is a fundraiser and scouts can sign up to assist parking cars and with trash . We will need to leave N.B. at 6:30am and will last until 3pm Saturday afternoon. I will transport from Scout house
October 13 Apple Butter parking
We need 8 scouts to help park cars during Grand Rapids Apple Butter Fest. We will need to leave N.B. at 6:15am and will be done at 4pm. Please let me know if you would like to sign up for either of these but please , for now, pick one of them, I will take a list of scouts who would like do both but will use if we are short. I will email everyone as the detail fills up. With these kind of work responsibilities, be aware that parking cars requires scouts to be very aware of their surroundings and mature enough, so, if you have concerns about being too young we try to ask that scouts be at least 12 years old. We will accept younger but will talk to parents individually about each scouts’ abilities.

Quote from Baden Powell
“Boy Scout is not merely to give you fun and adventure but that, like the backwoodsmen, explorers, and frontiersmen whom you are following, you will be fitting yourself to help your country and to be of service to other people who may be in need of help. That is what the best men are out to do.”
Shawn Benjamin – Scoutmaster
