UPDATE: Softball Sectional Championship Story & Foto Gallery 2018

left:  sliding under the tag at home for the WIN!!!

After suffering back to back losses at Van Buren and Arlington this week the Lady Tigers were in danger of ending a great season on a sour note.  On Thursday the Tigers would have to face Arlington for the second time in three days for the sectional final game with a chance to move on or go home.

The Red Devils were able to strike first with a quick run in the top of the second inning  but the Tigers answered quickly with three of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Once again in the top of the third the Red Devils plated two more runs to knot the game at three. That’s the way it stood for the next four innings.  With both teams threatening, but great defensive plays on each side to stop any scoring opportunities.

In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs and runners on first and second, senior Makenna Ray ripped a walk off single up the middle, to score Chloe Hopple from second base and to secure a 4-3 victory, moving on to Districts in the OHSAA tournament.

Katelyn Weinandy pitched a gem in the circle, going all eight inning and striking out 10  Red Devils, to bring her record to 13-4.

WP:  Weinandy (13-4)

Tiger Hitters:  Makenna Ray 2-1B, 3B, 3 RBI;  Chloe Hopple 2-1B;  Mia McCartney 1B, RBI;  Katelyn Weinandy 1B;  Simone Thompson 1B

Record:  13-4 /  7-3 BVC

Next Game:  Tuesday 5/15 @ Marathon Diamonds (Findlay) vs. McComb (District semi-final)
