North Baltimore High School graduate and long-time resident Terry Wymer, a 1982 graduate of Findlay College, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at The University of Findlay’s 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame brunch to be held at 11 a.m. January 17 in Winebrenner Theological Seminary’s TLB Auditorium.
Wymer built a nice athletic résumé at Findlay College. He was a member of the 1979 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national championship football team in 1979 and earned three baseball letters as the Oilers’ first baseman. For the past 21 years he has become best recognized as a basketball official for the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), where he has been assigned to many important games.
Because he did not commit an error during the 1982 season, Wymer’s name still appears in UF’s baseball records. He also provided a potent right-handed bat for the Oilers, and twice earned NAIA All-District 22 honors.
Wymer’s attention turned to basketball officiating in 1984, and he worked games for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), retiring after officiating in the 1992 and 1994 Boy’s State Tournaments. He officiated NCAA Division III and NAIA games beginning in 1988, but committed to NCAA Division I officiating in 1993, starting in the Mid-American Conference.
The respected official has worked three Big Ten tournament championship games, as well as 10 Mid-American Conference Championship games and 15 Summit League Championship games. Wymer has worked a number of post-season tournament games including the National Invitational Tournament, and has officiated 13 of the last 14 NCAA tournaments. He advanced to the Regional Sweet 16 and Elite Eight on eight occasions, and worked the 2013 Final Four semi-final in Atlanta, Georgia, and the 2014 Final Four semi-final in Dallas, Texas. He currently officiates in the Big Ten Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Mid-American Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, The Horizon League, Atlantic 10 Conference, and Summit League.
Wymer is the owner of Service Master by TRW Cleaning Services. He and his wife of 33 years, Teresa, have adult children, Luke, Eric and Rachel.
