North Baltimore High School Football made the short trip down the Dixie Highway to Van Buren for the annual battle of the orange and black vs. the black and orange, with both teams at 2 – 1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference.
Van Buren scored early and often, racking up a 20 – 0 lead in the first quarter. VB’s Jacob Leal opened the scoring with a 51 yard TD run, following it with a 75 yard punt return for a TD. Riley Adolph hit Tyler Saltzman on a 22 yard pass play, to finish out VB’s scoring in the first quarter.
NB showed some spark early in the 2nd quarter by scoring on a 2 yard Brady Rader TD run (Brian kick) to cut the lead to 20 – 7. But Leal came back a short time later, to scamper in for a TD from 26 yards out (Piccorillo kick). The Black Knights finished out the 1st half with Adolph connecting with Brandon Bell for a 13 yard TD pass play, to give VB the lead at the half 34 – 7.
Adolph completed another TD pass to Bell early in the 3rd quarter, from 13 yards out.
NB would score on a Rader to David Patterson TD pass play covering 46 yards (kick blocked), at 7:01 in the 3rd.
VB finished off the scoring early in the 4th as Adolph his Braxton Fasone on a 5 yard scoring pass, giving Van Buren the BVC win 48 – 13.
Rader was NB’s leading ball carrier, with 89 yards on 18 carries, with one TD. He was 14 of 35 passing for 215 yards, 0 interceptions. Chase Naugle caught 7 passes for 75 yards and Patterson hauled in 3 passes for 71 yards and the lone score.
For Van Buren, Leal ran for 141 yards on 10 carries with the two scores. Adolph was 9 of 12, for 167 yards with one interception, with 4 scores. Fasone had 4 catches for 64 yards (2 TD’s) and Saltzman had 3 catches for 85 yards and one score.
NB gained 109 yards running the ball on 35 tries. Van Buren picked up 266 rushing yards on 30 carries.
North Baltimore will host Arlington next week (Oct. 7).
