North Baltimore High School Football hosted Van Buren Friday night with both teams 2 – 1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference and 3 – 2 overall.
Breaking a scoreless tie at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, the Tiger’s Clayton Heineman intercepted a pass, returning it 8 yards for a defensive TD (Gazarek kick good). The Tigers Kole Wymer then scored on a 15 yard TD run (kick good), with about 3 minutes to go in the first half, to put NB up 14 – 0 at the intermission.
NB would quickly strike in the 3rd quarter with Brady Rader connecting with David Patterson on a 34 yard TD pass (kick good). A few minutes later, on the next possession, Rader hit Levi Gazarek for a 24 yard TD pass (kick good) to give NB a commanding 28 – 0 lead over the Black Knights.
VB would finally score with no time on the clock at the end of the 3rd quarter (VB – Leal 7 yard TD run – kick good), to make the score 28 – 7 and give the Knights hope, that was quickly erased, with Rader hitting Kole Wymer on a 25 yard TD (kick good), for the final score of 35 – 7.
Wymer led the NB ground game with 22 carries, for 112 yards a one TD. Rader was 15 of 23 passing for 203 yards, 3 TD’s and no INT. His favorite target was Gazarek with 5 catches for 93 yards and a TD and Wymer with 3 catches for 29 yards and the TD. NB did lose 2 of 3 fumbles.
The Tiger defense had their best game of the year, allowing VB just over 200 total yards for the game (142 rushing, just 65 passing) and just one score.
Next week the 3 – 1 BVC, 4 – 2 overall Tigers will travel to Arlington for another important BVC contest with the Red Devils, who beat Hopewell-Loudon last night.
