The North Baltimore High School Boys Basketball team hosted the Van Buren Black Knights in the final game of the regular season. The game started out like VB was going to run away with a BVC win, but the NB Boys would have none of it, showing their resolve in hanging in, then hanging on for the 72 – 68 win.
Van Buren came off the opening tip hitting just about every shot they took in the first half, to take a 39 – 31 lead at the break. But the Tigers found their game, inside and out, to come back and take the lead after three quarters of play 51 – 50. In the fourth, NB looked like they might run away with the win, but the Knights hung tough, then fell short in the end for the four point loss.
NB was led by Chad Wright with 26 pints and 12 rebounds and several blocked shots, lifting the the Tigers to 14 – 8 overall and 8 – 4 in the BVC. Levi Newcomer was deadly from beyond the 3-point arch, hitting five trey’s on his was to 18 points. Lane Bishop hit three treys as part of his 11 points, and he added 5 assists. Derek McMahan hit 10 points, with Sean Watson adding 4 points and 2 steals, and Noah Brian hit three points.
Braxton Fasone hit for 23 points in leading Van Buren (14 – 7; 8 – 4 BVC).
Van Buren won the JV game 51 – 26.
North Baltimore opens OHSAA tournament play at Eastwood High School against BVC foe Arcadia, on Wednesday.
