Update! Tigers Give 100% in Hall of Fame Game

by JP Miklovic
North Baltimore (2-13, 0-7 BVC) was totally undersized vs. their nearest and dearest rival, the Van Buren Black Knights (11-4, 8-1 BVC) in NB’s Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction basketball game.

With 6′ 5″ power forward and junior big-man Levi Gazarek still out with a severe ankle sprain, the young Tigers played inspired and scrappy ball with a Blanchard Vally Conference leader.

With ONLY ONE senior on the roster, Alex Snyder (6’2″) and playing 3 freshmen (Johnny Hagemyer 5’9″, Mitch Clark 5’10, Isaac Sexton 5’9), a sophomore (Zach Weinandy 5’9) and a pair of juniors (Jaden Bucher 5’9, Clayton Heineman 5’8). NB impressed the huge crowd in The Jungle, with their hustle and “game” against a larger (5 guys over 6 foot) and very experienced (all juniors and seniors) squad from down the road by the State Park, who now happen to be tied for the league lead).

The final score was 57 – 50, but it was closer than that most of the evening. Coach Adam Burris had his team in a proper frame of mind to battle in a classic David vs. Goliath scenario, as the Tigers held an 18 – 15 lead after the first quarter! But NB’s aim with the rock needed to be better to knock-off one of the BVC league leaders, their size and experience finally won out.

Coach Burris said, “Great atmosphere with the fans and the young guys are learning more each game!”

Fotos later…

“Great job Tigers from this old NB Hall of Famer (’73 Golf). Keep playing hard and clean and HAVE FUN!!! – Nice effort!” JP

RE: UPDATEThanks to Suzanne Bucher for telling us about Alex being a senior! NBX had to look on last year football roster to find the big fella… (as he came out for the team “late”. But we misinterpreted the info which we viewed, and tried to give him another year of high school!
