Troop 315 Newsletter April 2018

Troop 315 Newsletter April 2018
Damon Dotson just made Eagle rank on Thursday April 22, 2018.  Kathy Bomer, Jennifer Codding, Frank Boes and Larry Bateson sat on the board.  Damon’s project was to build the NBPD gun bunker for their practice shooting by the reservoir.  I’ve know Damon since he was 8 years old and we practiced karate together for many years,  He then opted to join boy scouts and stayed committed to the program his entire youth.  Camp Alaska’s, Summer Camps, District Camps, Damon was there.  It’s been great fun and a pleasure to be able to see him grow up .  His parents Tony and Vicki, have been very supportive of the troop over the years and many thanks goes out to them for their involvement and that occasional “Dad voice”.

Recap of Camp Alaska
So .. A very successful camp Alaska at Camp Berry was had on the weekend of March 3rd.  All the scouts who ventured out to the woods survived 24 hrs preparing their own meal over their own fires,  building shelters and dressing properly for the outdoor survival.  However…  Back at the cabin,  we were teaching younger scouts how to use an ax, mainly Skyler, who managed to hit his head not once , but twice causing with the back of the hatchet causing a more than interesting moment for all us volunteers.
No meeting April 1st for Easter

With about 1 month from the summer camp payment deadline for Early bird, please put this at the top of your list of “To Do’s”.  Make check payable to Troop 315 and let me know what camp, or both, you are going to.

Deadline for early bird campers May 1st

Deadline for BSA physical  June 1st

Here’s a recap of my summer camp reminder from last newsletter.  Camp is just 2 months away.  and early bird payment is due by May 1st approx.35 days.  Don’t let these dates get away from you. I would recommend all first year campers to attend Camp Berry due to its great Baden Powell program for first year campers but you can attend either or both.

Scouts from our troop will have 3 ways to enjoy camp in 2018.  1:)  Pioneer Scout reservation from June 17 thru 23 in Pioneer Ohio   Cost 287.00    Option 2:)  Camp Berry in Findlay July 1st thru 7th.  Cost 295.00  Option 3:)   2 weeks of camp, going to both Berry and Pioneer   Cost – $582.00   Either way you choose,  We can also do a pre payment plan into your accounts to spread out paying for camp.  All prices are based on Early bird registration paying  before May 1st.

Parents may attend camp but here are the requirements.  You need to be a registered adult leader with a BSA physical completed,  Cost is $107.00 for yourself.   National requires all adults to be registered, background checked and have taken Youth Protection training before attending resident camp.

BSA Physical requirement for all scouts and adults who attend resident camp and are required every year.  You have until June 1st to have this completed and it works best if there is a sports physical being done or annual check up you can include this on.  Here is the link to a PDF version you can fill out and take to your doctor.
