Four candidates expressed interest in filling the vacant seat made available when member Art Patterson resigned his seat earlier this month. Tonight at a special meeting, the Village Council selected Pastor Mike Soltis to serve as the community resident that will complete the term that will end December 31, 2021.
Council had 30 days to select a replacement, and four residents expressed interest: Soltis, Marc Findley, Brian Plumb, and Malcolm Cameron. Plumb bowed out earlier today. The other three showed up for the meeting tonight, and were each given up to 5 minutes to express their reasons for being interested and how/why they were interested.
The Council declared a brief Executive session to discuss the situation, then called those waiting, back into the Council Chambers and opened the floor for nominations. Soltis was nominated and all voted for him to fill the seat, with the exception of Coucilman Ty Carles, who abstained. Carles explained he will finish his term s at the end of next month, and didn’t feel right in voting for someone, when he won’t even be on council working with the new member. The Mayor and Council members all expressed their gratitude to the citizens who willing chose to answer the call to serve the Village. “We didn’t even know if we would have one person interested, and to have four was wonderful. Any of you would have done a great job, and we appreciate your time and interest and hope you will continue to serve on committees and commissions for the Village,” said Mayor Janet Goldner.

The Mayor then administered the oath of office to Pastor Soltis and he assumed his assigned seat, and participated in the only other business of the evening–casting his first vote in favor of paying the Village’s bills.
