Village Council Met Last Tuesday

The March 5th 2019 village of North Baltimore council meeting began with prayer offered from Pastor Duane Weaver of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Councilmember Aaron Patterson asked for members Ty Carles and Art Patterson to be excused from the meeting.

The interim financial officer was absent also, but Village Administrator Michael Brillhart presented the bills to be paid in the amount of $179,000+ as presented.

While looking over the administrative reports Council President Matt Beegle responded, ” I appreciate what Chief Walter has done with his EMS report.” Mayor Goldner and Councilman Patterson agreed to the improved look of the report.

Village Administrator Michael Brillhart spoke briefly about the “Safe Routes to School” Project. Poggemeyer Design, Design engineers for the project are advertising this week for engineering services. He hopes to be able to open bids on March 29th followed by the beginning of the sidewalk construction project Funding for this is ODOT. Councilmember Aaron Patterson said “We want to make sure that the dirt that is being dug up for these sidewalks will be retained for village use. Please make sure Mr. Brillhart, that whoever is awarded the contract is aware that we want the dirt. ”

Brillhart also spoke on the Downtown Revitalization project(100 block of North Main Street) basically by saying that there will be more to talk about at Committee of the Whole meeting.

He also mentioned that he had met with Glenn Grisdale from Reveille Planning Group about the initial phase of the CRA and job growth grant planning efforts.

For standing committee reports, under Personnel, Policy, and Ordinance Review (T. Engard, chair) Council member Leisa Zeigler inquired if the village has a tobacco policy. Mayor Goldner responded “Smoke-free Ohio” is State policy.

Under the Public Works committee, (M.Beegle, chair)Matt Beegle stated that he had met with the NB Youth League and they will be paying for their own food service licenses for the concession stands this season. More to be discussed at Committee of the Whole meeting concerning sidewalks in the village.

There were no other standing committee reports.

Because two Councilmen were absent, there were not enough council members present to approve any ordinances or resolutions for the evening.

The Committee of the Whole meeting is Tueday, March 12, 2019 at 5:30pm.
