Village Reminder for Grass Clippings

Ordinance 521.12: SWEEPING LITTER INTO GUTTERS PROHIBITED

No person shall sweep into or deposit in any gutter, street, or other public place within the Village, the accumulation of litter from any building or lot or from any public or private sidewalk or driveway.  Persons owning or occupying property shall keep the sidewalk in front of their premises free from litter.

An excessive amount of yard clippings in the roadway leads to a blockage in the Village catch basins.  This blockage costs the Village thousands of dollars to remove, which we as taxpayers are ultimately responsible for.  This is a public notice to request the removal of yard clippings from the roadway.  If you fail to comply with this request in the future, enforcement action will be taken.  As a Village we aspire to keep the roadways and sidewalks as clean as possible.  We appreciate your assistance in helping us keep our roadways clean.  We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

  1. I say the offenders get one warning then spray roundup on their entire yard, that will get them !!

  2. What Jeff said is right and I agree, why can not people just not blow them into the street or blow them back in their yard, IDK if this is an answer but seems they do not care. Maybe if the violators were warned or fined poss they would not do it again or start to care…..IDK

  3. The question should be, why can’t people simply either not blow their grass clippings into the street OR, if they do, blow them back into their yard when they are done? Why should the village be paying anyone to have to drive around and “report” people or site people for grass clippings?! Not having the clippings in our storm sewer is the issue being dealt with here. If we can’t control what goes into the storm sewer, then someone (us residents) are going to have to pay for treating it. And please, don’t start in on the water rates are high enough around here already. Yes they are and it IS a bummer, but it is what it is. We need to start working on our issues in a positive way, TOGETHER, instead of allowing our focus to be diverted.

  4. Funny, have already seen MANY blatant violations of this. Do the violators have to be reported for violations to be enforced? And what if you see city employees violating this as well?

    1. As I drive around the village I see many violations of this. I don’t understand why these people get away with it. Can anything be fair here??
