West Broadway remains CLOSED

West Broadway in North Baltimore, Ohio is CLOSED until further notice.

Bates Recycling, the owner and contractor razing the former Norbalt (Johnson Rubber) plant, says that West Broadway will be CLOSED until further notice, for safety considerations. Chris Bates says that until the north walls of the structure are down and cleared, West Broadway will be closed, even “after hours”. He anticipates reopening the road by the end of the week.

Bates also indicated that Mitchell Road would have intermittent closures, as this is the primary access road for hauling materials and equipment. This will keep that traffic out of downtown North Baltimore.

Bate’s plan is to clear the property, and then work on making it available for development. Bate’s father Joseph is the listed owner of the nearly five acres which run on the south side of West Broadway, all the way out to the dead end at the tracks. Bates also owns most of the land east of the old Norbalt plant, save a couple of parcels, nearly to Central Ave., where the old Smith Foundry used to operate.
