When History Becomes Haunted!

Take a Journey to the Poor House for Folklore and Fun

Folklore and fun is the theme for October at the Wood County Historical Center & Museum, 13660 County Home Road in Bowling Green.

NEW Corn Maze every weekend in October from 1-4 PM. Allow 30-minutes and take the trivia challenge to win prizes. $5/person which includes same-day museum admission.

Friday Night Folklore Tours are Friday, October 28 starting at 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00. The 90-minute guided folklore tour starts on the spooky trail then moves to the Asylum, Pauper’s Cemetery, and ends inside the museum with “Master of Wonder” magician Dorian Gray. Reservations are required by calling 419-352-0967. Tickets are $12 per person with discounts for students and Historical Society members. Dress appropriately for an outdoor hike and bring a flashlight.

Folklore fuels the season as told by archivist Becky Denes at a Folklore Tea on October 13 at 7 PM. Reservations are due by Friday, October 7 and can be made by calling 419-352-0967.

The Wood County Park District will hold several folklore-themed activities and events at the Historical Center: Register for the Scarecrow-making contest by October 10 or attend the Scarecrow workshop on October 11 at 6 PM. A Free Pumpkin-carving workshop will be held October 13 at 6:30 PM in preparation for the Free Folklore & Funfest Family event on October 15 from 4-9 PM. This event has horse-drawn wagon rides, kid-friendly games in Boo-Ville, apple cider press, and super hero costumes are encouraged. Details and registration are at and
