Bowling Green, OH (March 24, 2017) – The Wood County Committee on Aging, Inc. (WCCOA) is currently accepting entries for this year’s poetry contest, focusing on the theme “Powerful You.” Any Wood County adult age 50 or over may participate, as well as any students in fourth through eighth grade.
The opening date for submissions was on Tuesday, January 30, and entries will be accepted until Friday, March 31 at 4 p.m. Submitted poems should, in some way, celebrate the heart and souls of members of Wood County citizens as they continue to celebrate their lives, and share stories of life, hope, dreams, and love.
Up to two entries per participant will be accepted. Intent to submit will not be accepted. Poems are to have a title and to have the poet’s name, address, and phone number on each page. Entries must be submitted in English, double spaced, and in 12 point Times New Roman font. They must be entirely the poet’s original work and never previously published, online or offline. All styles of poems are acceptable but they must be original. Any plagiarized short stories or poems will be automatically disqualified.
Poems are due to the Program Department at the Wood County Committee on Aging, Inc., 305 North Main Street, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402 on Friday, March 31, 2017 by 4 p.m. You may also e-mail your entry to email@example.com. All entries must have the title of the poem, their name, phone number, address and date of submission.
Winners will be selected by a Bowling Green State University writing professor and BGSU gerontology students. All poems entered will be available for reading in a loosely bound edition. Winning poems will be published in WCCOA’s newsletter, on WCCOA’s website and blog, and in local papers. A grand prize award of a $50 gift card will be awarded at our awards banquet on Monday, April 24 at 4 p.m. All participants are encouraged to attend the awards celebration and participate in the poetry readings to learn if their poem is a winner. Light appetizers and refreshments will be served. Call 419-353-5661 or 1-800-367-4935 to make reservations.
