Nature awakens with a burst of colorful blossoms. See what’s in bloom, find out fun facts & folklore, and discover what else springs up along the trail. Dress for the weather & wet walking.
May Flowers Geocaching
Thursday, May 7; 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Bradner Preserve

Embark on a modern treasure hunt! Learn how to use our GPS units to explore the preserve like you never have before. Dress for the outdoors and be prepared for brief self-guided exploration off trail with potentially rougher terrain. Participants should expect to walk over 1 mile.
Spring Mushrooms

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Friends’ Green Room

There’s more than morels – some are delicious, some are not, and some are dangerous. Build your skills for figuring out fungi, look for mushrooms in the woods, and maybe we’ll find a few choice edibles. You must attend on Thursday to participate in Saturday’s secret excursion.

The native plants that were grown in the Park District’s greenhouse are ready to plant in the parks and preserves. Tools will be provided. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.

Want to figure out how to tell one tree from another? Learn the basics of spring tree identification on a guided walk through Cedar Creeks Preserve. Bring a camera for the many tree species that will be in bloom!
Native Nursery Nights

Reuthinger Preserve

Join us on Thursday nights this summer at the Native Plant Nursery and Greenhouse at Reuthinger Preserve. Volunteers may be asked to plant, water, weed or collect seed. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.
QuickStart Your Canoe Orientation

Start this paddle season off right! Join instructor and naturalist Craig Spicer for this American Canoeing Association certified class to sharpen up on the basic safety and paddling skills you’ll need. Participants must meet Essential Eligibility Criteria prior to registration, provided on the program registration web
page, or by contacting Craig Spicer at [email protected] or (419)-661-1697, ext. 3. Participants should expect to get wet and dress for the weather. Participants must be 12 years of age or older. Cost: $15, FWCP: $10.
