Wood County Parks Offer Programs for July

Heritage Farm Demo:

Livestock Care

Saturday, July 1st; 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Carter Historic Farm

18331 Carter Road, Bowling Green

Stop by anytime between 1-4pm the first Saturday of each month to see farm staff and volunteers in action working on the farm. Each month’s activity is dependent upon the season’s progress, so themes are subject to substitution. For July, we’ll be grooming the livestock, and cleaning and

repairing their living areas.

Canoeing with Crayfish

Enjoy a float on the pond at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve; perfect for a family outing, comfort-builder for beginners, or relaxing exercise! An instructor will be available for introductory safety and skills education. All boats, life-jackets, and paddles provided. Boats and gear available on a first-come-first-served basis. Enjoy a nature walk while you wait! Must be 4 years of age or older to ride, 12 years old for kayaks. Call ahead for special needs or accommodations. Kayaking programs made possible by ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Scenic River Kayaking
Saturday, July 15th; 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Weirs Rapids Access: 21095 Range Line Road, Bowling Green

Paddle down the Mighty Maumee with a naturalist. Check out ecological features and search for wildlife like bald eagles, painted turtles, beaver and more! A kayaking safety and skills session will prelude the trip. See online description for full details. Previous kayaking experience highly recommended. Paddling trip is roughly 5 river miles. Must be 14 years of age or older (must have liability form signed by legal guardian before attending the program). All registered participants must meet Essential Eligibility Criteria (abilities and characteristics deemed fundamental for participation). Call ahead for special needs and accommodations. No restroom facilities at program location. Kayaking programs made possible by ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Youth Intro to Rope Rappelling
Thursday, July 27th; 9:00 am – 1:30 pm

Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve

This one’s just for the kids! It’s a day of rope rappelling fun! A brief orientation covers gear and safety procedures, then it’s off to 25-35 foot cliffs. Safety equipment, instruction/guiding, and water will be provided. Bring a water bottle, sack lunch, and snacks. Participants must be 8 – 14 years of age. Parent/guardian must be in attendance – no drop-offs. Closed-toe footwear only; access to the cliff tops requires short hikes on slightly uneven terrain.

Carter Historic Farm

As an optional bonus experience for campers, they may elect to participate in a campout at the farm the last day of camp. Campers will return to the farm on Friday at 6:00 pm to cook dinner over the fire, play games, go for a night hike, and tell stories around the camp fire. We’ll cook breakfast the next morning and have free play before pick up at 10:00 am. Please call 419-353-1897 to register.
