North Baltimore High School graduate (’17) Seth Thompson of Panda Technologies in Bowling Green has always had a dream of owning and operating his own business. It all started at an early age, as Seth developed a skill and passion for technology and computers and connecting it all together to make people’s business and personal lives better.
So at the ripe old age of 11, Seth installed his first business network, then at 15 began his company Panda Technologies, by registering his business with the State of Ohio. Now about 5 years later Thompson has grown the business to include up to 7 associates (helpers) that help with installation, networking, and troubleshooting service calls in businesses and homes.
Panda Tech offers many services to help businesses and individuals with electronic repair, connection, and training, including TV’s, entertainment and gaming devices, home and business phone systems (VOIP), Smart Home & home automation, WiFi, Broadband, Bluetooth, networking and IT Consultation and Managed Services. He operates redundant servers and offers many opportunities for anyone interested in harnessing the power of modern technologies. Visit: www.pandalife.us for more info!
When talking humbly of his growing business, Seth points out that networking and being involved with other business owners have been key in building his business. He noted that the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce has been very helpful in many ways, not the least of which was the awarding of a $1,000 grant for marketing and promoting his business. With these funds, which are awarded quarterly by BG Chamber, Thompson invested in new and really slick business cards, new hats and caps as premiums for customers and potential clients.
“I want to thank the BG Chamber for awarding me this grant,” Thompson said, “But even more is the opportunities to network and be part of the area business scene. They really want to help all businesses succeed!”
When asked what advice he would have for other young budding entrepreneurs he said, “Join local business groups, chambers of commerce for networking and exposure. Get into a business that you will be happy with or have a passion for doing long term. It’s not like TV and movies, the real world of business is hard work, sacrifice and again, be in it for the long haul”, (says the kid who just turned 20).
And finally, he added, “Don’t be afraid to say “No”, not every project is for you, not every chamber job is for you, not every customer is for you. Know your limitations, but never stop learning.”
