The North Baltimore Public Library’s popular Book Chatters group will hold its final discussion of the year on
Tuesday, November 25th at 6:30 PM in the Wolfe Community Room. This month’s featured title is The Women by bestselling author Kristin Hannah, a novel that has sparked national conversation for its powerful portrayal of courage, sacrifice, and the overlooked service of women during the Vietnam War.
A Powerful Story to Close Out the Year
The Women follows Frances “Frankie” McGrath, a young nursing student whose life is shaped by duty, family expectations, and the shifting cultural landscape of the 1960s. When her brother deploys to Vietnam, Frankie makes a bold decision of her own—joining the Army Nurse Corps and stepping directly into the harsh realities of war. Hannah’s novel highlights the quiet heroism of the women who served, the struggles they faced upon returning home, and the enduring strength required to rebuild a life after trauma.
Reading Group Notes
The November gathering will also mark the last Book Chatters meeting of 2025. The library reports that the 2026 reading list will be announced soon, giving local readers plenty to look forward to in the new year.
